Voice of a Spanish Dancer

Published July 26, 2013 by rochellewisoff

You might possibly think by my title that this blog is going to be about a flamenco dancer. In which case, you would be wrong! This Spanish Dancer is a nudibranch, a marine mollusk without shell or gills.

I’m a water baby. A friend has likened me to this amazingly graceful creature.  If there was a way to surgically implant gills in a human being I’d be first in line to be a test subject.

In the coming weeks I hope to share my favorite passion next to writing through poetry and prose.

            Without shape or form,

            Neither young nor old,

I am alone but not lonely.

            Buoyed by water.

Soul, body, spirit and water are

    • Dear Valerie,

I’m so happy you came by. Whereas others dream of flying, I dream of diving. The most peaceful place for me is underwater. It’s where I’m unfettered by schedules, demands and responsibilities. A few years ago, when my eldest son married in St. Thomas, I discovered the joy of the snorkeling. My eyes couldn’t drink in enough of the color and mystique of that world.
For now it’s swimming pools and an occasional lake swim. I dream of returning to the sea.

  • Good morning, Rochelle. Thanks for sharing your obsession with us so beautifully. The video is amazing. I’d never heard of this type of Spanish Dancer although I know a bit about the deep sea angler fish from a report our older daughter did many years ago. 🙂. I feel much the same way about horseback riding in the mountains.

  • Oh I loved this and can relate totally. Swimming is one of my very favorite things whether it’s in the pool or a lake or a river. I’ve never swam in the ocean, but oh wouldn’t I love too! I just love the picture of you swimming underwater! HA!!

    • Dear Linda,

Nice to know we have that in common. I’ve been swimming in all of the above. There’s something magic about water. For me it goes beyond soothing. The ocean was incredible. Next time I’ll post some pictures I took, although they don’t do the actual setting justice.
Yup that’s me in my natural habitat. Not sure when or where the photo was taken.
