Character Study – Ulrich Dietrich

Published April 12, 2015 by rochellewisoff

“Although he could well afford to have his suits tailored by the Czar’s clothier, Ulrich Dietrich would have none of the aristocracy. The wealthy heir of a German banker and a successful musician in his own right, he baffled his colleagues by choosing to enlist the services of a poor Jewish tailor. When criticized, he would merely shrug and thank the critic to mind his or her own business.”

When circumstances force Havah to leave Svechka for Kishinev, Ulrich who is a lonely widower, hires her to be his housemaid. She quickly becomes more than that to him. Impressed by her aptitude and talent, he takes her under his wing as a student in both English and music.

Havah, in turn, finds herself attracted to this Christian man’s sense of humor and admiration of her people. Little by little she allows herself to forget Arel and fall in love with Ulrich.

    • Dear Liz,

Book trailers have been around for a couple of years at least. It really won’t be shown anywhere other than, perhaps, at book signings on a laptop or in social media. I think they’re a nice idea and I think Kent has found his calling in this area.

    • Dear Stephonie,

I’m so late answering comments. The latest news is that the book is supposed to be available for preorder today and released May 8. Just click on the W&B link above.😉

After nine years, it’s happening so fast.

I’m happy to see you here. I’ve missed you in the FF lineup.

    • Dear Nan,

The book’s supposed to be available for preorder today, April 20 and released May 8. You’re close enough that if you get one you can meet with the author for a personal autograph.😉

Thank you for your head-turning words. BTW. Kent Bonham is the man behind the video. I think he’s found his calling and I’m blessed to be his guinea pig.

  • Dear Dale,

An editor actually turned the book down because of Havah’s choosing Arel over Ulrich. She felt that Ulrich was a stronger character.

Ulrich would’ve given Havah everything money could buy and then some, but then it would’ve been a different book.

Not to worry…I haven’t left the good professor high and dry. You’ll see more of him in the sequel.😉

    • No way! Turning it down because of a choice? Wow, have I a lot to learn should I choose to one day take a chance and put a book out there… That is crazy.

He would have indeed. And it was for love, not possession.

Oh so happy to hear that! Can’t wait (but must…)

      Have a fabulous day, Rochelle,
